In year 6 children focus on becoming a Responsible Citizen, Successful Learner and Confident Individual. They will use their skills from the previous year groups to help with this. Year 6 have many opportunities to show these skills. For example, they help with The MacMillan coffee morning, the Strawberry Tea, the Open Mornings, Year R lunchtimes and Collective Worships. They take part in a £5.00 enterprise challenge where they set up a business to make their £5.00 grow in teams, communicating with each other and organising both themselves and their resources. They put on an end of Year Production that’s performed to the rest of school and family and friends.
Children are expected to read regularly at home for pleasure. The Y6 library slots for changing books are Wednesday for Ospreys, Monday for Kestrels and Eagles. For information on reading records and other home learning click here.
Home learning goes home with the children on a Friday.
Ospreys: Monday and Thursday
Kestrels: Wednesday and Friday
Eagles: Tuesday and Thursday
We ask that children have suitable clothing for PE and Games. The children need a tracksuit when the weather turns colder.
At Western we have an ‘Open Door’ policy. If you would like to see a teacher please pop in at the end of the day. We politely request the end of the day as teachers are responsible for their children in the morning however, if it is urgent we will endeavor to cover the teacher. Feel free to make an appointment at the office.
